The core of the\u00a0First Blacks in the Americas<\/em>\u00a0platform is formed by a series of thematic historical overviews on general aspects of the early history of Black people in La Espa\u00f1ola (Arrival, Demographics, Economy, Resistance, Manumission, Women<\/em>, etc.) as well as by a set of resources consisting of a collection of primary sources, in the form of\u00a0a selection of archival manuscripts and their typed transcriptions, translations, summaries and contextual comments<\/a>; a\u00a0glossary<\/a>;\u00a0a\u00a0bibliography<\/a>; a\u00a0timeline<\/a>; a collection of scholarly research pieces; a set of\u00a0historic maps<\/a>\u00a0and didactical maps; a collection of\u00a0photographs and images<\/a>;\u00a0links to other online tools<\/a>; and\u00a0audio-visual materials\u00a0<\/a>dealing with the Black experience in the Americas and the world during the sixteenth century as well as some of its contemporary legacy.\u00a0Other components, such as\u00a0lesson plans for teachers\u00a0are expected to be incorporated in the future.<\/p>

The thematic overviews as well as the components housed\u00a0at the \u201cResources\u201d\u00a0prompt may be accessed\u00a0directly through the main menu bar at the top of the\u00a0platform page. Visitors will also find an abundance of links contained in the overviews they encounter before the \u201cResources\u201d section. This section provides access to\u00a0further exploration of the different themes of the overviews, through\u00a0primary sources, a glossary,\u00a0maps, photographs, a bibliography and scholarly pieces related to each topic introduced in the overviews.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
