The notary describing the event defined the man as a creole\u00a0ladino\u00a0from\u00a0Guinea\u00a0whose name was Sebastian and who identified himself as a Christian.<br \/><br \/><\/span><span class=\"Normal__Char\">Under oath and before the judge, Sebastian claimed to\u00a0be a free person from a place in Africa named\u00a0Vogonda\u00a0\u00a0in what was then called\u00a0Guinea, and to be the son of the king of this African place.\u00a0 He reported that about a year before he was traveling from\u00a0Vogonda\u00a0toSierra Leon\u00a0on a ship of Gaspar de Agui that hired him as his servant. This ship, whose crew was Portuguese, was attacked by\u00a0French pirates and its cargo of gold, silver, wax and ivory taken by the French.\u00a0Sebastian and \u201canother free black named Domingo Bran\u201d and \u201canother black woman named Leonor who was also free\u201d were all kidnapped by the French crew.
