Imagen N\u00fam: 2\/2\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>Those involved in the gold mining enterprise being launched by the Spanish colonizers by mid September 1505 in La Espa\u00f1ola\u00a0 felt the need of a good deal of the tools and techniques they had been familiar with in the mining work done in the Old World, and in this letter to the officials of\u00a0<em>Casa de la Contrataci\u00f3n de las Indias<\/em>\u00a0the Spanish monarchs acknowledge having received request from the colonists of La Espa\u00f1ola for a variety of tools and materials.<br \/><br \/>Interestingly, the monarchs also refer in the document to having received requests from colonial governor Nicol\u00e1s de Ovando for \u201ctwenty Black slaves to work in our constructions,\u201d\u00a0 which shows that enslaved Blacks, aside from whatever numbers were being forced to work in the mines, were already\u00a0 being used as well in building works that were considered by the monarchs as very close to their colonizing efforts. \u00a0Similarly shown in other documents\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/firstblacks.org\/en\/manuscripts\/fb-primary-012-manuscript\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(Manuscript No. 012)<\/a>, it also confirms that by then governor Ovando had abandoned his initial fears about the problems caused by the enslaved Blacks that would run away once arriving in La Espa\u00f1ola.\u00a0<br \/><br \/>The Crown responded to both requests by ordering via this document that the tools, materials and enslave Blacks be sent to La Espa\u00f1ola as soon as possible.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div id=\"e-n-tab-content-143245265\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"e-n-tab-title-143245265\"
